Passons l’éponge! is a compensation of the lost water storage on the sealed ground at Plateforme 10. It allows to bring and hold new life for plants and insects, where it wouldn‘t be possible. So we put a sponge on it, not to cover the sealed ground, but to show and make it‘s importance visible, while being beneficial to the environment and the people that visit MUDAC.
The Museum acts as a laboratory. The Circulateurs as carriers of the medium, the Sponge, where new life emerges and nature can take over again. Our focus is on the process of this building, planting, growing, maintaining, testing and the interaction between the object and the people that get involved.
Instead of using energy to move the Circulateurs, they build the base of the Sponge. They themselves are an imprint of what is under the now sealed floor.
It already provides a habitat for insects. Together new species can take root on Plateforme 10.
At the same time, the Sponge will not have any longterm influence on the Circulateur. It is constructed as a temporary and easily movable object. After the time at MUDAC, when it‘s fully grown and flourished it will be transferred and planted to another place and the funiture will have it‘s original function again.
Together, they raise the questions of artificiality and naturalness and draw attention to the important questions on our planet these days.
