C14 Forest Project

Forest Project is an inorganic, fantastical, movable forest growing in the parking lot of the Bellerive-Plage swimming pool. Its presence here underscores just how inhospitable this asphalt desert is to nature. The forest and its movements form a game, with the paved surface as its field of play. Like a moving opera, the game adapts to its surroundings: it bypasses cars and interacts with other events taking place nearby, which themselves shift and change through visitor engagement.

Poles normally used to mark out the shape of planned buildings provide a glimpse into the future—public and participatory—of this part of the city built out onto the lake. But here, these poles with their prophetic power tell a different story: that of a more desirable future. Perhaps one day, not too far from now, this parking lot will give way to a park, and these metal gingkoes, hornbeams and plane trees will be replaced by living specimens.
