D03 Bains Olympiques

“On your marks, get set, go!” The tension builds. Spectators rise to their feet as the world’s best swimmers put their talents to the test. A marked-out rectangular zone, anchored to the bottom of the lake, sways gently on the endless expanse of water.

Bains Olympiques is a temporary installation that recreates a fragment of the Olympic swimming pool, with 50-meter lanes separated by dividers stretched between two floating pontoons. Each pontoon, measuring 25 square meters, consists of 200 floating modules weighed down by eight anchor points.

The installation perfectly rounds off the numerous activities already on offer in the Olympic Park, bringing them down to the water’s edge and out onto the lake. It has many advantages over conventional swimming pools: the structure is easy to assemble and dismantle, can be reused and requires no maintenance. This fun addition to Lausanne, the Olympic City, offers young and old alike a chance to compete against their peers and set their sights on gold.
