B02 Totora

Like the man-made reed islands of Lake Titicaca, Totora is an archipelago of three temporary islets for bathers. Each one is themed, with ladders and covers creating a floating vista and opening up Lake Geneva for new leisure uses. These floating rafts are made from plant-based materials such as reed bales planted with willow shrubs.

Each stage of the buillding process has positive consequences: mowing the reeds at Grande Cariçaie, area on the south shore of Lake Neuchâtel, promotes the regeneration of the marsh while containing it within a given territory; storing plant matter captures CO 2; finally, recycling the biomass of the islands into topsoil enables the complete ecological recovery of the archipelago at the end of the event. Totora thus proposes new ephemeral yachting territories, using natural, local materials that are then recycled into ecological compost.
