C01 Bateaux de-ci, de-là

Sixty years ago, the spot where people now relax by the lake at Vidy was under water. Small boats bobbed quietly along or swayed gently on the waves, tethered to buoys. Now the water has gone, and grass, asphalt and gravel stand in its place. The natural shoreline has disappeared—and with it, the rowing boats that once steered across the water’s surface. In memory of this lost landscape, this place now hosts a fleet of small wooden boats attached to concrete buoys: places where people can sit, lie down or play. Who knows what stories will be told on and around these little boats this summer?
